The higher the amount of money you want to borrow, the more options you have; provided of course that you have good credit, and a purpose for the money. If you are looking to get a 10000 dollar loan you have several options available to you.

1.) A bank or a credit union. This is the most traditional way to go. It is best to go to a bank with whom you have a relationship, meaning, with one that you have an account or some history with. That way they have some experience with you, and if it is positive experience they are more inclined to give you what you want. However, it is a good idea to check around a little and make sure that you are getting a competitive interest rate.

2.) A Peer-to-Peer lending network. These are a recent innovation, and an excellent way to obtain money. The interest rates are sometimes slightly higher than a bank, however their credit score requirement is usually slightly lower than a bank. You are basically borrowing money from an average person, and you both benefit as long as the contract is upheld.

3.) Small Business Association (SBA). This association does not give out loans, but they can help you attain one, if of course you want the money for a small business. They have many resources, including, the possibility of co-signing a loan.

4.) Borrowing from someone you know. The larger the amount the more I would not recommend doing this. Often, anyone willing to lend you money has a close enough relationship with you that if things went south you would greatly miss the relationship if it was destroyed. If you decide on this option, get everything, and I mean everything in writing.

$10,000 is not $1000 cash loans. It is significantly more, carries more options, and inherently more risks.
