Renters Insurance – It’s Important

May 24, 2010

Have you ever been in a friend’s apartment after a robbery or a fire? It’s a sad thing. Worse yet is the fact that many people who rent apartment homes are not carrying renters insurance. If you just start adding up the cost of things like bath and bedding linens, furniture, and such, the valuation can grow quickly.

Renters should be carrying insurance, as it is so important for all tenants. If you have not yet purchased a home and are still renting, it is much to your own benefit to take time and learn its importance before heading out to shop for an insurance policy.

The reason this particular type of insurance is so important is because as a renter rather than an owner, your property is not covered by the homeowner’s insurance. If something were to happen to the home, God forbid, such as a fire or flood and your property was ruined the costs would come out of your own pocket.

You sign up for a policy and have peace of mind knowing that you are protected financially if anything ever were to happen.

When shopping for insurance you will see there are different things covered by different plans. The kind of things you want to ask about, depending upon where you live, might include whether the basic policy of the renters insurance would be covering typical damage caused by ice, snow, sleet, explosions, volcanoes, riots, hail and lightning, water damage, falling objects, windstorms and aircraft vehicles. This is a pretty impressive list, and they may tell you yes it is covered or no it is not. There may also be exceptions in your policy that spell out the circumstances of coverage.

The company that provides your car coverage may offer renters insurance.

If you are a renter it is at least worth considering. This way you know you are being responsible and will feel safe knowing that you and your family are protected.
